ONU inicia campaña de vacunación en Haití

MÉXICO, D.F., La Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) estima vacunar en Haití a unas 140 mil personas contra el sarampión, la difteria y el tétanos, luego del terremoto que devastó a la nación caribeña en los próximos días.
La campaña es una iniciativa conjunta del Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (UNICEF), la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) y el Ministerio de Salud haitiano.
De acuerdo con el Centro de Noticias de la ONU, la Cruz Roja Internacional será el organismo encargado de llegar a la población y aplicar las vacunas, para lo cual ha movilizado unos 100 voluntarios.
Por el momento, la campaña se centrará en Puerto Príncipe, la capital, donde se teme que pueda haber un mayor riesgo de brotes epidémicos.
También se suministrarán dosis de vitamina A y tratamientos antiparasitarios, indicó la Cruz Roja Internacional.
